The Three Main Types Of Golf Balls
More than any other piece of golf equipment, the golf ball has been the focus of the most technological advances and efforts to advance its performance. The first golf balls were made of hard wood. Now the most advanced golf balls are made of some of the most cutting edge technology available.
Manufacturers spend millions marketing their golf balls as the “best thing since sliced bread”. Each one is trying to convince you that their ball will turn you into Tiger Woods.
The three main types of golf balls you should concern yourself with are budget, hard and soft.
If you are a beginner, your best bet is to purchase used or budget golf balls. You will be losing a lot of balls into the water or out of bounds so buying cheaper golf balls is your best bet.
The harder golf balls such as the Callaway CB1 are perfect for those golfers who could use more distance off the tee. These balls are not as hard as the budget type, but are durable and offer some feel around the green although they still won’t stop very quickly on landing due to their hardened construction.
Soft golf balls are used by all the professionals on all the major tours. Since they are the best ball strikers they do not need a lively ball like the budget golf balls. Nor do they need the hard type of golf ball such as the Callaway CB1. These golf balls allow the pro golfers to hit very accurate shots.
Other factors such as your swing speed play into the types of golf balls you should use. Just make sure you use the same golf ball each time you play so you will be able to track your performance and its improvement and not have to wonder if it is the golf ball.
